GB 47372-2026: New Mandatory Standard for Portable Power Stations – Guide Inside
In the past, inconsistent manufacturing quality and frequent safety incidents in the power bank industry not only troubled consumers, but also created a crisis of trust for industry practitioners. The release of the new standard marks the industry’s formal entry into a new cycle characterized by stricter regulatory oversight, rapid technological iteration, and major market reshuffling. Only 12 months remain for the industry’s compliance transition period.

Deep Dive: The 4 Core Requirements of the New GB Standard

This standard not only covers portable power banks, but also brings portable energy storage power supplies (portable power stations) under regulation. The key changes are as follows:
Cell Safety: Comprehensive Upgrade of Test Items
New Nail Penetration Test
A 4 mm tungsten steel nail penetrates the battery cell without causing fire or explosion. This is the first time such an extreme test has been introduced for consumer batteries, simulating severe internal short-circuit conditions.
New Cycle Aging Lithium Plating Test
After 300 charge-discharge cycles, the cell is disassembled and the lithium plating area is strictly controlled, addressing the long-term safety risks associated with battery aging.
Comprehensively Enhanced Test Requirements:
Thermal Abuse Test:
The test condition has been increased from 130°C/30 min to 135°C/60 min to verify stability under high-temperature environments.
Crush Test:
The crush force has been upgraded from flat-plate compression at 13 kN to round-bar compression at 20 kN, strengthening resistance to mechanical compression.
Overcharge Test Voltage:
The charging limit voltage has been increased to 1.3 times the standard value to verify safety under overcharge conditions.
7.1 Overcharge
After charging the battery according to the standard method, continue to charge it at a constant current of 0.2 I (or 0.21 I, as specified) until the voltage reaches 1.3 × U (charge limit voltage). Then, switch to constant voltage charging at this voltage. Stop the test after 1 hour of constant voltage charging, or when the total charging time reaches 7 hours, whichever occurs first.
The battery shall not catch fire or explode.
Intelligent Management (BMS): From “Available” to “Accurate”
The new standard introduces quantitative requirements for Battery Management Systems (BMS) for the first time:
Precise Monitoring:
Voltage deviation ≤ ±1%; temperature deviation ≤ ±3°C (within 70°C).
Black Box Function:
Mandatory recording of overcharge voltage, abnormal temperatures, and corresponding timestamps. In the event of an accident, the data can be traced and responsibilities can be identified.
User Accessibility:
The above data must be accessible via a display screen or APP.
Automatic Voltage Regulation
The standard requires mobile power supplies to feature automatic maximum charging voltage adjustment. As service time (≤18/30/42 months) or cycle count (≤70/140/210 cycles) increases, the system must automatically reduce the upper charging voltage limit (e.g., Ue-0.1V). This helps slow battery aging at the source and balances long service life with high safety.

Abnormality Disable Function: The Final Safety Barrier
When undervoltage (<0.4×Un) or overvoltage (>Up+0.3V) is detected, the mobile power supply must execute an irreversible disable function to completely cut off power and prevent secondary hazards.
NGI Full-Scenario Testing Solution
The new regulation presents both challenges and opportunities. During the 12-month transition period, companies that achieve compliance first will gain a competitive market advantage.
In response to the stringent requirements of GB 47372-2026, NGI leverages its extensive expertise in new energy testing to provide a full-scenario mobile power supply testing solution, helping enterprises efficiently achieve compliance.
